I’ve had a lot of good days. But today wins. Hard. Because I signed the contract today to write my first book. Lifelong dream, ever since I read The Great Gatsby when I was 15 years old.

It’s better than the day I saw The Police in 1983. It was the Synchronicity Tour. The Thompson Twins, The Fixx and Berlin opened for them. The movie “Risky Business” had just come out. We sat next to Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay and he put on my Ray-Bans. I was 16. Easily the best day of my young life.

Better than the day I moved into my first apartment on Balboa Island. (It was actually my second apartment, but the first one doesn’t count because I hated it.) It was on Agate. And it was rad.

Better than the day I moved to San Francisco and lived in a studio on Pine and Hyde for $485 a month and started hanging out in The Haight every day.

Better than the day Jalee and I got our first press for Stone Marten. Shannon Elizabeth wore a backless dress we designed in Flaunt Magazine. I just Googled it. No luck. My original tear sheets got all muddy in a basement flood and I had to throw everything away.

Better than the day I worked with Farrah Fawcett on a fashion job, which was actually the second time I met her. The first time was on the Charlie’s Angels set. I was 12. And the second time, I ate chocolate cake with her on her bed.

It’s better than chocolate cake.

Better than Slurpees.

Better than finding money in my sock drawer, which does happen.

Better than Vegas. When you’re winning. Until you’re losing.

Better than The Great Gatsby.

Better than whatever is the best thing I can think of.

It’s probably just as good as the day I quit boozing over 26 years ago, not because that was such a good day, because it wasn’t. It sucked. I felt like a shitty loser. But because of that day, I had this day. One wouldn’t have ever happened without the other. So much wouldn’t have happened.

The day I married Mauro was the best day of my life. It’s the least stupid thing I’ve ever done. I can’t wait to write about that.

Bent comes out Spring, 2017 baby!!
